Still Trying
A downloadable Conversation for Windows, macOS, and Android
Still Trying is a fan-game kinetic novel based off of NomnomNami's Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet, as well as its in-development sequel, about a certain early morning in the life of a certain witch. A somewhat common disturbance makes it difficult for her to sleep, but, with some help, hopefully she can calm down and get some more rest.
CONTENT WARNINGS: a depiction of an imagined suicide attempt (skippable), behavior and discussions based on a specific personality disorder (one involving having a "favorite person"), direct language about suicide and self-harm, direct language about self-hate and perceived rejection, manipulative behavior, strong language, physical assault (mentioned), and bullying (mentioned).
Despite the content warnings, this is meant to be a happy story. It is a bit emotionally dense, though.
There are some references to previous fanworks I've made, but it should be perfectly understandable without having played/read them.
There is no sound or music in this game, but I would recommend listening to something soft and ambient while reading.
There are around 8k words, and it takes around 30 minutes to finish reading. Hopefully it's enjoyable to those that read through it!

very awesome game i'm really glad you make these stories with the nami characters. I really crave for more interactions between those characters, and with those themes it's really touching to go through, and even kinda hits close to home ngl. I loved every bit of it!
Edit: also i didn't talk about it but the drawings are awesome
it took 2 hours to read through(i guess i read english 4 times slower, ha! a new discovery!) and i had a great experiance!
awwwwwww, what a nice story... so wonderful... thank you for making this!!!!! i fully recommend it!!
the emotion is natural and fluid. the facial expression is reflective. our cat and witch's personality is vivid and well-set...! they're all adorable...... and that thanks to you!
i kinda know the feeling so it gave me resonance... and flashbacks... i'm happy how you wrote them, resolve them, it's so cute and warm, it did bestowed me positive sentimentals.
their relationship is stuggled and complex as well, yet sooooo nice and cute... i love it and i'm looking forward to read next fanfic...! glad i had read the first part through haha, reavealed the little secret toffee held. not so glad that i didn't sitck on the long fan-novel... that how they become this, i'm always into that kind of things, maybe i will read them bit by bit afterward.
by the way i like how toffee's tail laid on butterscorch, it's very cute! and a weird little question that... what the icon is? a pumpkin and a hmmmmm...???????
anyhow, i love it, and wish to see more things you create! ganbatte kudasai!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHH, the icon is really indiscernible, because I didn't really put too much thought into how it would look when shrunk down, pff... But it's this. Allegedly I saved a 1000x1000 size version somewhere but I cannot find the .clip file anywhere....... Nyo'well. At least, in this size, it's a lot more easy to read, even if my cat anatomy may not be perfect, pff. Maybe I shoulda drawn it more like.... a cat hugging a pumpkin, though....... That'd make more sense. But whatever!!!!!! This was literally the last thing I drew, so I was slightly tired!!!!!!!
now to look at it, it's well-drawn and extremely cute and soft!!! i learnt that shrunk down will twist the symbol from back when i made my pfp... it's all in the outline and color lumps... annnnnd, who cares anatomy??? the abstract figure is closer to the reality, and touches the essence!!!!! not that i don't think learning them isn't essential to be clear...
yeah~! i will!
it is okay~! we'll find our way and become more and more experienced, and i never said it's bad or anything, i just didn't finish it and that couldn't mean anything, yet include ellipses! some even say your first few creations are far more powerful than later ones, i mean, i wish later ones to be great of course...
also, i just say what i thought hahaha, hopefully to be cheerful to be honest... and doesn't spoil other's mood...
Oh I wasn't aware you had begun the read. Hopefully it doesn't take like... 12 hours to read, since it takes myself like 3-4 hours to read it (I've reread it like 5 times now oops). I do think my first attempt at anything narratively is probably my favorite thing I've made though... Maybe??? I really really like the Butterscotch birthday comic I made when I first obtained Pen Tablet technology, pff. Another Night is probably the thing I'm happiest with though, perhaps unsurprisingly.
Although I do find it kinda funny that I was really hesitant to put the more moody stuff in Another Night's ending, but here I am, straight up talking about all that much more directly, pff... These themes are really important to me, though, so I'm glad I'm writing them!!!
And, saying whatever the heck you wanna say is the best way to go!!!! That's how I do it, anyway, so, pff. It's nice yelling that you love something at the people making such things!!!!!
i've read that long time ago in nami's patron and it was cute and sweet! ...another night is undoubtedly sophisticated!!! you should be proud of it!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS YELLING AT THINGS YOU LOVE!!!!!!!!!! though i hardly yell at things myself, i just... afraid of doing that in public... since it could be inappropriate and my thoughts might bother someone... unless i got drunked... hmmmmmmm......
I haven't done it in a while but getting drunk is truly empowering, for certain. Sometimes you do immensely regret the things you said while drunk though, from an embarrassment perspective, pff. And oh you saw it there first, I see!! Wouldn't have expected anybody to look there apart from some folks who comment on her posts, pff. Surprising.
